How I got my funny accent –Falz
Comedian cum singer, Falz, got more fans
than foes when he came into the entertainment industry with his unique
funny accent. In a recent chat with Saturday Beats, he revealed what made him to have such funny accent.
“Ever since I was in secondary school, I
have had this fake accent. I started with making fun of people and my
siblings but as soon as I got into the university, I began to focus on
my music and I decided to apply the brand in my music. After university,
the brand began to grow bigger so I decided to branch out and I began
to do short and funny videos. Now it puts food on my table,” he said.
A lawyer and son of activist, Femi
Falana, Falz said that he had practised his law profession and even
represented some clients in court before delving into music.
“I actively practised for about two
years after I was called to the bar in 2012. I was always going to
court. It was not easy keeping my alter ego in check but I had to. I had
to restrain myself from not being funny. Those that surrounded me at
the time knew as well that I was trying my best to be ‘sane’ because it
would have been catastrophic if I had allowed my alter ego to take over.
I had to control everything from within.
Falz doesn’t see himself taking over his father’s popular chambers.
“I cannot take over my father’s law
chambers because it is a law firm and not a family business. There are
so many lawyers there that are capable of continuing the legacy; so it
is not something that I necessarily have to do,” he said.

Melaye weeps in church, says I was tempted to seek diabolical solution
The Chairman, Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Otunba Dino Melaye, on Sunday
stunned holy congregation at the Apostolic Church Nigeria, Oke-Ayo
(Iluafon) Assembly in his home town, Ayetero-Gbede, Kogi State, when he
narrated how was tempted to seek diabolical means during preparations for the 2015 general election.
According
to him, the several temptations were to ascertain his fate at the
election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in which
he floored his arch rival, Smart Adeyemi of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP).
Melaye who is representing Kogi West, made the revelations during a special thanksgiving service and empowerment programme for youths in the area, attended by 26 Senators and all traditional rulers in the area.
During
the empowerment programme, 18 seater Toyota Hiace Bus valued at N9
million each was donated by him to the Christian Association of Nigerian
(CAN) in Kogi West, Council of Ulamas, Kogi West and the National
Automotive Technicians and Artisans Association (NATA) and Ijumu
Development Union (IDU).
Other
items donated include a 32 seater coastal Bus to a Non-Governmental
Organisation (NGO) within Kogi West valued at N32 million; electric
grinding machines to widows in all the 85 wards of Kogi West; sewing
machines to indigent apprentice who have completed their trainings and
driers and salon kits.
Melaye
also doled out computers to secondary schools within the senatorial
district; 250 telephones to dedicated his loyalists valued at N100,000
each.
The
Senator who had earlier done 100 boreholes in Kogi West Senatorial
District, gave out scholarship to indigent persons in all the wards.
He
however added a new dimension to the purity and supplication when he
rolled on the floor of the church, wept before God and thanking God for
His mercies to the admiration of the congregation.
According
to him, some of his core loyalists who were so deeply concerned about
his fate ahead of the election, tempted him to seek victory prediction
through different diabolical means, including soothsayers, for which he
flatly rejected.
Melaye said, "When I was contesting election, even from among my supporters, some people came with various advice. In fact, somebody came that I should go to the seven Local Government Areas and fetch the soil of the seven LGs. He said that was the way to my victory and I laughed at his ignorance. But I rejected because I've vowed thatI will never be diabolical in my life, it pleases to served God."
Speaking about his election court cases in the Election petition tribunal, the senator, regretted what he called "unnecessary court cases", he went through from his political rival, but thanked God for granting him victory in all.
He said, "After the victory, I was taken to the tribunal. I'm one of the few persons in this country who was taken to different courts for four times. I went to four different courts. It all started from the tribunal to Apeal Court. The Court of Appeal ordered retrial of the case at the tribunal and we started again.
"When again we finished from the tribunal and went back to the Court of Appeal, external forces came in. But in all these, God saw me through. External forces came in during the second time I appeared at the Court of Appeal. But God, in His mercy, gave me victory for the second time."

Calvin Harris escapes unhurt after a speeding car crashes into his SUV (photos)
Superstar DJ, Calvin Harris escaped unhurt with only a few scratches
after a recent car crash. The horrific collision happened on Saturday,
when the driver of a speeding Volkswagen Beetle which was allegedly
filled with teenagers, lost control and smashed into Calvin's black
Cadillac SUV.
Pictures from the scene show the mangled red Beetle convertible which smashed side on into Harris's black SUV with a badly damaged hood, its bumper hanging off and license plate folded in two.
Harris' car on the other hand, absorbed all the impact on the front left wheel, while the left side of the hood was completely torn off, revealing the engine underneath.
Calvin was taken to a local hospital for a facial laceration. However, according to TMZ, Law enforcement sources said that he asked for a private room, and when they couldn't accommodate him, he left against medical advice. This has however been disputed by his reps.

No one influenced me to leave Olamide’s label – Lil Kesh
Ever since artiste, Lil Kesh, announced
via his Instagram page that he has left YBNL, the record label of his
mentor, Olamide, so many people have had diverse opinions about the
young chap.
While many said that he was ill-advised
by those he surrounded himself with, others opined that his career was
not ripe for such a move as they said it would affect him adversely.
But in a chat with Saturday Beat, the rapper explained why he took the decision.
He said, “People are still getting it
wrong; no peer group or friends pressurised me to leave YBNL. To set the
record straight, I don’t move with any other crew other than YBNL; so
who would possibly want to influence me? Nobody. It has always been
Olamide’s dream that we all grow big in the industry; Olamide had shared
the idea with me before I even thought of it. I am still very much
around in the industry and good stuff is still going to come out from my
stable and YBNL.
“The fact that I am floating my own
label does not matter, neither does it mean that I am no longer under
YBNL. That is where a lot of people are getting it wrong. Olamide and
YBNL movement are still managing me as an artiste and the fact that I
have my own label simply means that YAGI Records is being managed by
YBNL. We are still together; I and Olamide still record in the same
studio and work with same set of producers. As you all know that YBNL is
a family thing and we all support one another.”
Known for the lewd lyrics in his songs,
the 22-year-old said that people should not be deceived as he is a very
religious person. He said that he is from a strong Christian background
and he had never forgotten his roots.
While describing himself as a church
boy, the singer said, “I don’t joke with my creator; despite all the
whole celebrity thing; this life doesn’t freak me, I always remember
where I came from and how far God has positioned me because my story is a
testimony; what excuse do I have not to praise my creator?”
When asked if he knew that people
perceived him to be a pompous fellow, he said that it was hard to
believe because he hardly goes out.
“There are places where you go and
people tell you Lil Kesh is a good guy while there are some places that
will feed you with negative comments. That is all part of the life of a
star. There are times I have a very bad day and barely smile; maybe
that’s one of the days those people meet me, or maybe I am at an event
with a crowd of over 5,000 people, you don’t expect me to take pictures
with them all even though I am willing to do that. My manager sometimes
restricts me when he sees that the crowd is becoming too unbearable. I
am a human being and I can’t satisfy everybody. Let me seize this
opportunity to say I am sorry; maybe you caught up with me on a very
wrong day. Lil Kesh is cool headed, playful and down to earth,” the
rapper said.

Emma Nyra’s Powerful Message To The Ladies “Stop Tearing Each Other Down”
Ladies this message is for you. I think it’s sad that every single
day, I receive negative and constructive criticism from women who have
never constructed anything. Every single thing I do is criticized
because I’m In the public eye, fair enough that’s what I signed up for
in order to be a female artist. You may also want to understand why I am
successful and why I will always be successful. It is because of women!
The women who have dedicated their time and talent to work with me, Collab with me, and advise me. The women that look after their fellow woman by building her up, instead of tearing her down. This is why men are successful because they help each other grow. The most important woman in my life (my mom) is a very successful business woman and my whole life I watched her take criticism from women who tried to bring her down. She handled it all with a smile and killed them with success. I wrote this to challenge women. This year as a woman, challenge yourself to support other women around you. Mentor younger girls and make them stronger. Lift each other up. Define womanhood. 2016 #YearofTheWoman

‘Nigerian shippers lose N15bn yearly to lost cargoes’
Nigeria’s maritime industry loses more than N15 billion annually to
lost cargo claims, maritime lawyer, Mr Emeka Akabogu, said on Friday.
Akabogu, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, urged shippers to utilise maritime lawyers to assist them in recovering their lost goods.
He pointed out that there was need for importers to seek legal advice from maritime lawyers in reviewing their contracts in order to protect them as well as their cargoes.
“Maritime lawyers can also assist shippers to claim their goods many years after they have been lost, provided proper documentation was made available by the shippers,” he said.
“Many stakeholders do not explore the judicial process for their claims because of cost and time and so they rather forgo their claims altogether.”
Akabogu said that no claim was too small, adding that some shippers considered that some claims were not big enough for the efforts.
The lawyer explained that the procedure for small claims under the rules of maritime arbitrator allowed many claims to be consolidated under one claim.
He urged shippers to follow due process to ensure speedy processing of the claim by the lawyers

Fuel price increase not about removal of subsidy – Osinbajo
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Friday said the Wednesday increase in
pump price of Petroleum Motor Spirit was not a subsidy removal issue.
He said the issue was about foreign exchange problem in the face of dwindling earnings.
Osinbajo who supervises the nation’s economy made the clarification in a document tagged “A personal note to Nigerians” made available to journalists by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande.
In the document titled “The fuel pricing debate: Our story,” Osinbajo said he had read the various observations about the new fuel pricing regime and the attendant issues generated.
While saying that all the observations have strong points, the Vice-President said the most important issue was how to shield the poor from the worst effects of the policy.
That, he promised, he would address in another note.
Osinbajo said the fuel price hike was not about removal of subsidy because there was not much of subsidy to remove at the current price of crude oil.
He said President Muhammadu Buhari was one of the “most convinced pro-subsidy advocates.”
The Vice-President explained, “First, the real issue is not a removal of subsidy. At $40 a barrel there isn’t much of a subsidy to remove.
“In any event, the President is probably one of the most convinced pro-subsidy advocates.
“What happened is as follows: our local consumption of fuel is almost entirely imported. The NNPC exchanges crude from its joint venture share to provide about 50% of local fuel consumption. The remaining 50% is imported by major and independent marketers.
“These marketers up until three months ago sourced their foreign exchange from the Central Bank of Nigeria at the official rate. However, since late last year, independent marketers have brought in little or no fuel because they have been unable to get foreign exchange from the CBN.
“The CBN simply did not have enough. (In April, oil earnings dipped to $550 million. The amount required for fuel importation alone is about $225million!) .
“Meanwhile, NNPC tried to cover the 50% shortfall by dedicating more export crude for domestic consumption. Besides the short term depletion of the Federation Account, which is where the FG and States are paid from, and further cash-call debts pilling up, NNPC also lacked the capacity to distribute 100% of local consumption around the country.
“Previously, they were responsible for only about 50%. (Partly the reason for the lingering scarcity).
“We realised that we were left with only one option. This was to allow independent marketers and any Nigerian entity to source their own foreign exchange and import fuel.
“We expect that foreign exchange will be sourced at an average of about N285 to the dollar, (current interbank rate). They would then be restricted to selling at a price between N135 and N145 per litre.
“We expect that with competition, more private refineries, and NNPC refineries working at full capacity, prices will drop considerably.”
Osinbajo said the Federal Government’s target was that by Q4 2018, Nigeria should be producing 70% of its fuel needs locally.
He said at the moment, even if all the refineries were working optimally, they would produce just about 40% of the nation’s domestic fuel needs.
“You will notice that I have not mentioned other details of the PPRA cost template.
“I wanted to focus on the cost component largely responsible for the substantial rise, namely foreign exchange.
“This is therefore not a subsidy removal issue but a foreign exchange problem, in the face of dwindling earnings,” the Vice-President concluded.

EFCC searches Fani-Kayode’s house, arrests domestic worker
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday
stormed the Abuja home of a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi
Fani-Kayode, and arrested a domestic servant, The PUNCH has learnt.
It was learnt that the operatives stormed the house located at 5 Zuma Close, Aso Drive, Abuja in the afternoon and searched the compound.
However, the detectives could not gain access to the main building as it was said to have been locked.
The spokesman for Fani-Kayode, Mr. Jude Ndukwe, told our correspondent on the telephone that the operatives stormed the compound without a search warrant.
Ndukwe said, “Operatives of the EFCC invaded the home again. They did not even have a search warrant but harassed everyone in the compound.
“They could not gain access to the main building so they decided to search the quarters where the domestic servants reside. They arrested the laundry man and took him to their office but later released him.
“Chief Fani-Kayode is already in their custody. I wonder why they are still behaving this way even though he has been cooperating with them. This executive rascality must stop.”
The ex-minister was on Monday arrested by the EFCC for allegedly receiving N840m in February 2015 when he was the spokesman for the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation.
The money which Fani-Kayode admitted to receiving was said to have emanated from the account of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The ex-minister, however, said he did not know that the money emanated from the account of the CBN

Police arrest six suspected homosexuals in Edo
he police have arrested six men for allegedly engaging in acts of homosexuality in the Benin area of Edo State.
The Assistant Inspector General of
Police in charge of Zone 5, AIG Musa Daura, who paraded the suspects on
Thursday, said they were arrested on May 9, 2016.

Festus Osagiede (24), Hyacinth Imahanrebhor (20), Itama Omon (25),
Onwukwe Prince (28), Monye Chukwuma (23) and Osadebe Kelvin (26), adding
that they had confessed to have been committing the crime since 2006.
He said Osagiede first committed the crime with the third suspect at a night club in Benin in 2006.
“After the third suspect (Itama) got drunk, Osagiede took him to his house and raped him.
Since then, they have been committing the crime with others at large until May 2016, when luck ran out on them,” Daura said.
The youngest among the suspects,
Hyacinth, said he was forced into the act by Osagiede, who allegedly
threatened to kill him if he disclosed it to anyone.

“That night, he touched me. In the course of shouting at him, he forcefully penetrated me and it got me sick.
“He said if I told anybody, he knew where to find me and my family, and he would kill me.”
However, the AIG described the crime as a
disturbing trend, saying many of the perpetrators had formed cliques.
He said the suspects would be charged to court on Friday (today).
“You will agree with me that this
offence is an offence against humanity and nature, an abominable act
that should be condemned by all,” he added.

Kim and Khloé discuss how they honestly feel about Rob & Chyna
In the latest teaser from Keeping Up with the Kardashians,
Kim and Khloé had an honest conversation on how they feel about their
brother Rob's relationship with Black Chyna, their sister's boyfriend's ex. Even though
they're happy for Rob, they're also equally disappointed in him,
too.
"Am I
happy he's out and about? For sure," Khloé says. "Am I disappointed
that Rob isn't talking to me after he got out of my house? Yeah, because
I've been the only one that stood by him and defended him and wanted
the best for him. So, that's just where it gets frustrating.
"If she gave him confidence, more power to her," Kim says in the video. "After Rob and Blac Chyna started dating, Rob is now like all over social media and like, out and about. He hasn't been like this in so long, that even though there's been some drama, if this is what it takes then I don't care who he's dating… I'm so happy that he's just feeling better about himself."
Khloé, on her part is also happy but they both seem to agree that Rob should have
been more honest about the relationship with the family and told Kylie
about it himself.

“We are appealing to the Embassy of France in Nigeria to reconsider its stance and issue visas to these officials. They are going to Europe for very important assignments as the two matches are key to the preparation of the Super Eagles for future engagements,” NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, said on Wednesday.
NFF protocol officials revealed that about 60% of the passports taken to the embassy on Friday, 29th April have been returned without visas according to reports by theNFF.com.
